"I recorded the mix in my studio using Ableton. I had started toying with the idea of putting it together in a more conventional method, but because of my vision for the mix, I decided that Ableton would give me more control of the overall idea and planning. The idea was to showcase what's become known as the "autonomic" sound at the 170 BPM tempo. I wanted the blends and mixes to be long transitions, blended in key, with up to three tracks playing at any one time in some parts of the mix."

The average quality of the RA podcasts is quite high, but ASC did really grab attention and surprised many of us with this mix. In it you find the kind of minimal drum 'n bass which ASC, dBridge, Consequence and similar people are doing, a kind of style more related to IDM, electro and mellow detroit than to the bombastic 2-step this style is usually related to. So, landscapes of darkness and landscapes of minimalism which subtlely turns more and more mellow, more melodic, playing with rhythm patterns, melodic hooks, while you wonder if this is a Jega/Autechre/Aphex Twin lost mix, and which suddenly leads you to Croms' "Invisible Cities", a gorgeous piece of slow disco with ambient detroit nods, echoes of synths and drums and simply the most amazing atmosphere you'll listen to in the following months. Though Resident Advisor removed this podcast from their archives, ASC has it for free in their blog. Google it. And enjoy.
